LSUHSC Charity School of Nursing Dormitory

This project consisted of a 113,000 SF renovation and restoration of a historical building. It had extremely difficult and unusual site logistics with no working elevator within the sixteen story building. Some of the challenges that the McDonnel Group overcame were the modern build back and renovation of an early 1900s building, an aggressive seven month schedule, and up to a six inch variance in flooring levels on each floor throughout the buildingThe McDonnel Group met these challenges with the following solutions: the design and construction of a custom-made steel-based material hoist to accommodate extremely difficult site accessibility, partnering with the owner, design team, and consultants in order to create and implement innovative solutions to the problemsrelated to a modern build back of an early 1900s building, created multiple shifts and performed demolition, MEPrough-in, and drywall activities simultaneously in order to keep the project ahead of schedule and by utilizing gyp-crete extensively to level flooring throughout the building in order to assure an accelerated schedule and quality control.
